Ekiti State University to Introduce Photographs, Other Security Features on Certificates

Henceforth, certificates to be issued by the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, will carry the photographs of their recipients as well other security features to avoid forgery.

Governor Kayode Fayemi stated this in Ado Ekiti at the weekend during an interactive session/dinner organized for students of tertiary institutions in the state.

The dinner was part of the activities marking the maiden edition of the International Students’ Day organised by the Ekiti axis of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

According to the governor, the measure was aimed at curbing cases of certificate forgery and impersonation which he said were on the increase.

He regretted that no fewer than 200 names/ certificates were sent to the university for authentication by the government of Ogun State during the biometric capture carried out by the state, adding that this could have been avoided if the certificates had photographs of the recipients.

Describing education as the “shortest route to poverty eradication,” the governor restated his administration’s commitment to providing functional education by introducing what he described as life skills in schools.

He said the rate of unemployment in the state posed a serious threat to its security, a situation which he said informed his administration’s decision to introduce the volunteer programme and youth empowerment/entrepreneurial scheme.

Earlier, the students who came from Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, (EKSU) Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Federal Polythecnic, Ado-Ekiti, College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ijero and College of Education Ikere- Ekiti, through their leaders sought clarifications on some of the policies of government in the education sector and demanded some changes in the social, infrastructure and administrative aspects of their institutions.

Specifically, the students who lauded the Fayemi administration for pegging fees payable in public institutions in the state, craved the intervention of the governor in the restoration of democratic student union governments in their campuses, the creation of the office of Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Matters and reduction in other (administrative) fees charged by institutions in the state.
