A Mobile police officer was yesterday confirmed dead in Ila-Orangun in the aftermath of the bloody protest by students of the State College of Education, Ila-Orangun.
The mobile police officer, whose name could not be ascertained as at press time was among the squad of anti- riot police drafted to the troubled community during Tuesday’s protest by students of the college.
Daily Sun reliably gathered that the corpse of the police officer was seen by passers-by yesterday morning at a location close to the palace of the Orangun of Ila-Orangun, Oba Wahab Oyedotun. Already, mobile police officers have invaded the town to prevent further breakdown of law and order and it was gathered that the armed police officers were chasing students from the town.
The death of the police officer, Daily Sun learnt could not be unconnected with the clash which ensued between the students of the college and some police officers when the later chased the students while the protest lasted. It was, however, learnt that the corpse of the dead officer was taken to an unknown place by a team of Police officers from the state Police command headquarters in Osogbo.
The students of the college had on Tuesday gone on rampage to protest the death of two of their colleagues who died in a ghastly motor accident on their way to the campus. The Welfare Officer of the Students Union Government (SUG) of the college, Mr Tanimomo Opeyemi lamented that the Mobile Police officers in the town were tormenting some students of the institution who were yet to return to their base as a result of paucity of fund.
He accused the police of going from house to house ejecting the students, adding that the police were beating the students before ejecting them . He said the leadership of the SUG was working round the clock to ensure that the students were not made to suffer unjustly.
