Obafemi Martins Scores Twice as Levante Beats Granada 3-1
Obafemi Martins scored a brace to help Levante ease past Odion Ighalo’s Granada on Sunday afternoon.
Martins put Levante ahead in the 12th minute to hand himself a perfect birthday gift, after capitalising on an error from a Granada defender to put the hosts ahead and send fans at the Estadio Cuidad de Valencia into wild celebrations.
Levante thereafter took control of the game, but the scores remained the same going into the interval.
Granada made a substitution at half-time, bringing in Floro Flores for Moisés Hurtado in order to play with two strikers up front, but despite their effort to get back into the game, they still fell victim to Nigeria’s ‘weapon of mass destruction’, after Martins broke through Granada’s jittery defence to extend Levante’s lead in the 61st minute.
The game was finally put to bed when Pedro Rios made it 3-0 in favour of the hosts in the 73rd minute.
However, Granada still had time to score a consolatory goal after Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo did enough to provide an assist for El Arabi.
Obafemi Martins has now scored four goals in five games for Levante this season.
