Another Journalist Brutalised In Lagos
Will this act ever stop.?
Barely a week after the brutalisation of a photojournalist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Mortuary, another member of the press has suffered a similar fate.
Governor Fashola condemned the mortuary attack, stating that he was “horrified” by it, but that didn’t stop
freelance photographer Tunde Ogundeji, from being assaulted yesterday.
Ogundeji, who was photo editor of the Compass Newspaper, had been taking pictures of passengers sitting on an Iddo-bound train in Ikeja, Lagos, with Idowu Ogunleye, photo editor of PM News when they were attacked
by thugs, allegedly from the Nigeria Railway Corporation.
“They beat me. They hit me in the head until I ran to the police station at the Ikeja Local
Government,” Ogundeji told PM News. “I had given my camera to someone else and since they did not see me with the camera, they started beating me.”
Ogunleye, whose camera was seized from him said, “We want the government to create more awareness about our job. We are not enemies of the society.
We also want fellow journalists to start writing about us again in opinion articles and editorial so that the society can understand what our role is.”
