Government to Support NYCS Scheme

HEAD of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Isa Bello Sali, has assured that the Federal Government would continue to support the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme with the provision of adequate manpower so that it could effectively fulfill its mandate.

During a visit in Abuja by the NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Nnamdi Okore-Affia, Sali said: “In spite of the recent challenges the nation has been going through, the NYSC scheme has always been a strong factor in the efforts made by the government to build a united and strong nation”.

According to Sali, “most of the people in leadership positions in Nigeria today have gone through the scheme and benefited from it immensely”.

Sali then “beseeched all Nigerians to ensure the safety and comfort of corps members sent to serve in all parts of the country”.

Okore-Affia explained that the aim of his visit was to brief the Head of Service on the developments in NYSC scheme.

According to him, “progress has been made in the implementation of the approved restructuring of the administrative machinery of the scheme”.

He then solicited further assistance in solving specific problems arising from the re-organisation.

Also, Sali has advised the insurance industry to engage in activities that would aid development.

During a visit by the Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Fola Daniel, Sali said: “The industry should take up the task of effectively educating the general public on the usefulness of insurance”.

Sali regretted “that the knowledge of most Nigerians on insurance is limited to the purchase of the third party vehicle policy, which they see as unavoidable”.

He then assured that the “government will continue to collaborate with the commission to make sure that only credible operators are involved in the scheme”.
