2011 Nov/Dec West African School Certificate Exams: WAEC Seizes 39,066 Results
The West African Examination Council has withheld the results of 39, 066 of the 404,863 candidates that sat for the Nov/Dec. 2011 West African School Certificate Examination (WASC).
Dr Iyi Uwadiae, the Head of National Office of the Council, disclosed this at a news conference in Lagos on Wednesday.
Uwadiae attributed the development to the various reports of alleged examination malpractices that characterised the exercise, pointing out that 179,840 females sat for the examination
He said 394, 33 candidates had their results fully processed, adding that 10, 526 others had a few of their subjects processed due to various errors and omissions, traceable to them.
Uwadiae disclosed that some of the errors and omissions occurred during the online registration for the examination while some others were committed during the conduct of the examination.
He said that out of the 49 blind candidates that took part in the exercise, 17 obtained credits and above in five subjects.
In all, 226,658 candidates obtained credit and above in Mathematics, while 226,188 others obtained credits and above in English language.
He said 147,012 candidates obtained credits and above in six subjects and that 199,214 obtained credits and above in five subjects while 246, 3412 obtained credits and above in four subjects.
Uwadiae said that 287,918 had credits and above in three subjects and 324,393 obtained credits and above in two subjects.
He urged candidates who sat for the examination to check the details of their performance with their scratch cards on the council’s website within 24 hours.
Uwadiae expressed optimism that with more attention being given to the education sector by the various states governments, the country would soon witness a positive turnaround in examination results.
He lauded Ebonyi government for providing accommodation for the take- off of the council’s branch office in Abakiliki, saying the gesture would facilitate activities of the council in the area.
