Siasia Takes NFF to Court Over Sack

Former Nigeria coach Samson Siasia has launched legal action against the Nigerian Football Federation following his sacking last week.

Samson Siasia’s men failed to qualify along with some other big hitters
Siasia’s side failed to reach the 2012 African Nations Cup – for the first time since 1986 – after a final qualifying draw with Guinea which ended 2-2 in Abuja, with the coach taking much of the flak for attacking when qualification was assured with the scoreline at 2-1.

Explaining the incident, Siasia said: “I did everything that was expected. We played a good game, created so many chances. I’d say luck was against us. If you ask me, I can’t really say this is what went wrong.

“Why would I want to commit more men forward? There wasn’t communication that at 2-1, we would qualify.”

The NFF announced that Siasia was sacked after he “breached a key clause in the contract” he signed on December 1. However, Siasia’s lawyers maintain that the organisation violated a formal 30 days’ notice and say he was not given a ‘dismissal letter’.

The 44-year-old has presented the NFF with an ‘originating summons’ to begin legal action, but no date has yet been set for the hearing.

Reports have suggested that current Nigeria skipper Stephen Keshi will take over the role in an interim capacity for six months.
