Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, today publicly identified with his new party in Abeokuta as he was presented with the certificate of the People’s Party of Nigeria, PPN.
He still remains the coordinator of the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organisation in the South West, a position that does not seem, in his estimation, to contradict his nurturing of the new party. Indeed, the new party has adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate.
The presentation of the PPN certificate to Daniel was at the PPN rally held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta where Governor Daniel presented all the PPN candidates in the state to the crowd that witnessed the occasion.
According to Daniel, all the PPN candidates are the best for the state and that come 29 May, he would hand over the reins of power to Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, the PPN gubernatorial candidate in the state.
Among the candidates of the PPN is Daniel’s deputy, Alhaja Salamot Makanjuola Badru, who is gunning for a seat in the House of Representatives.
Daniel seized the occasion to praise their relationship:
“Since we started, about eight years ago, God has given me a good deputy and the mutual understanding between us has been a great benefit for the state. We are not like some former governor in neighbouring state who always changed his deputy. With the experience garnered in the last eight years, my deputy will be contesting for the Federal House of Representatives and I want you all to vote for her and other PPN candidates as they are the best candidates the state has for now. Don’t waste your vote or throw it away, vote for the credible candidates and the credible candidates are PPN candidates.”
The official presentation of the People’s Party of Nigeria, PPN, governorship candidate in next month’s general election, Mr. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka was done by the founder of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, Dr. Fredrick Fasehun, while Otunba Gbenga Daniel presented other candidates. But no candidate was presented for the Ogun East Senatorial district, the seat Governor Daniel was eyeing under the platform of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, before the high court declared his nomination and others as illegal.
Speaking earlier at the rally, the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Akogun Kola Onadipe accused the PDP in the state of stealing the mandate of the people, promising that PPN will turn the table against them at the poll.
All the 20 caretaker chairmen of the local government in the state were in attendance, including some of the former council bosses and loyalists of the state governor.
